FAQ

What Are Naturopathic Doctors? Like other primary care providers (PCPs), naturopathic doctors work to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. We are licensed to perform physical exams, order laboratory tests and imaging (xrays, MRIs, mammograms, etc.), as well as draw blood and perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing as needed to determine an accurate diagnoses and monitor treatment responses. With the exception of medical and osteopathic doctors, NDs have a broader scope of practice than any healthcare provider in California. We are fully licensed as independent providers, unlike allied healthcare professionals like nurse practitioners or physician assistants. With that said, naturopathic doctors can function well within an integrated framework when needed, providing naturopathic therapies to complement and support treatments provided by conventionally trained doctors. Whether providing individual or complimentary care, we take a patient-centered approach that provides the most appropriate treatment for an individual's needs.

What is the cost for appointments? Our doctors bill at an hourly rate of $380. A new patient intake is typically 60-90 minutes ($380-$570), and follow-up appointments are typically 15-30 minutes ($95-$190). Some patients need more time with a doctor, and our model is set up to make sure patients receive adequate time to address their concerns with the doctor. We find that this fee structure saves patients significant money over a monthly subscription model or a concierge structure.

Does your office accept insurance? No. In order to provide high-quality care and keep our prices low, we choose not to bill insurance, and we are not part of any medical networks or groups. We do, however, provide diagnosis (ICD-10) and treatment (CPT) codes on each invoice and can generate super bills, which should be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement. Some of our patients do receive reimbursement for our services, but we recommend that you call your insurance and ask whether your insurance excludes out-of-network providers. Alternatively, many patients opt to use their health savings accounts.

Can labs be covered by Insurance? Possibly. If you have a PPO plan, we may be able to run labs through insurance. There is no guarantee for coverage. Our doctors CANNOT order testing through MediCal/MediCaid or MediCare. Medical Assistance Programs do not recognize Naturopathic medicine and therefore will not cover testing ordered by a Naturopathic Doctor. This is regardless of whether MediCal/MediCaid or MediCare is the primary or secondary insurance. Most of the lab companies we work with provide discounted cash pricing. We offer a wide range of specialty testing that may not be offered in a traditional medical practice. We also accept outside lab records. Does your office offer Financial Assistance or Payment Plans?
