Naturopathic Treatment for Abnormal PAPs and Cervical Dysplasia

Cervical dysplasia and abnormal PAP results can feel overwhelming—but they don’t always require surgical or invasive procedures. Naturopathic medicine offers gentle, effective options to help support cervical health and the body’s natural healing processes. One of the most promising approaches is escharotic treatment, a natural, topical therapy designed to target abnormal cervical cells while protecting healthy tissue.

What Is Escharotic Treatment?

Escharotic treatment is a series of in-office topical applications to the cervix that help remove abnormal cervical cells and support the body in clearing HPV. Unlike traditional procedures, escharotic therapy does not cause scarring or damage to the cervical mucous membranes, and the risk of infection is very low.

Treatments are typically performed twice per week for 8–16 sessions, depending on the degree of dysplasia. Each session lasts about 45 minutes to one hour.

During treatment:

  • A speculum is used to visualize the cervix.

  • A natural combination of bromelain (a pineapple extract), zinc, and sanguinaria (a botanical compound) is applied to the cervix.

  • Bromelain and zinc help deliver sanguinaria into abnormal cells while leaving healthy cells unaffected.

  • After treatment, patients use vaginal suppositories overnight to support healing.

Supporting the Body’s Healing Naturally

In addition to escharotic treatments, I often recommend a comprehensive naturopathic protocol that addresses the underlying factors contributing to cervical dysplasia. This includes:

  • Oral antiviral and immune support to help the body clear HPV.

  • Hormonal balance support to create a healthy cervical environment.

  • Nutritional supplementation to correct deficiencies linked to cervical changes.

  • Lifestyle and dietary guidance to strengthen the immune system and reduce recurrence.

This whole-body approach focuses on treating the root cause rather than just the symptoms—helping the body heal and maintain long-term cervical health.

When Escharotic Treatment Is Recommended

Not every abnormal PAP result requires escharotic treatment.

  • For mild dysplasia, I may recommend vaginal suppositories combined with the oral support protocol.

  • For moderate dysplasia, escharotic treatment combined with suppositories is typically the most effective approach.

The largest study to date has shown an 88% success rate after two years of follow-up for escharotic therapy, making it a highly promising option for patients seeking natural alternatives.
